About Lansdowne

Lansdowne is unlike other hill stations, as it is well connected with motorable roads but remote in its own way. It is situated at an altitude of 1,700 mts above sea level surrounded with thick oak and blue pine forests in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand state.

Lansdowne is located in the Pauri Garhwal district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The name was kept after the British Viceroy of India, Lord Lansdowne who served at the position during 1888 till 1884. The town was developed by the British as a cantonment town to train recruits for the Garhwal Rifles regiment.

He visited the place in 1884 and founded it as a cantonment town and hill station. Situated at 1700 meters above sea level, the town is built entirely by the British and features a lot of British Colonial architecture. Unlike other tourist hill towns in Uttarakhand, Lansdowne is surprisingly quaint and is only visited by tourists who seek solace or adventures like trekking, as it is also known to be the gateways to the Himalayas.
